What’s changing
These works are part of Main Roads WA and Arc’s rolling five-year plan for level crossing protection upgrades. This upgrade includes the installation of boom gates and audible warning devices (bells).
The bells are an audible warning device which are an important part of the active safety system at the crossing. The bells are triggered on approach and for the duration a train passes through the crossing. The bells will sound whenever the level crossing is activated.
The bells are designed to alert pedestrians, cyclists and other crossing users that a train is approaching and that it is not safe to enter the crossing. They are installed in accordance with rail safety requirements and are intended to provide a warning to all users, including those who may not be looking directly at the signals or who may have vision impairments. While the warning bells will introduce some additional noise for nearby residents, the audible warning is a necessary feature designed to help keep the community safe.
